Yvonne Kane (nee Potopsingh), born in Port Maria Jamaica in 1939, died February 20th 2011, at her home in Oakville, Canada, after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.
Her Jamaican heritage, her early years in Bailey’s Vale in her grandmother’s house, and her several years at Alpha Academy where she made lifelong friends, were formative years in Yvonne’s life. She immigrated to Canada in 1966. She is survived by her two sons Ross and Andrew and her husband David, granddaughter Victoria, siblings George (Harry), Desmond and Cecille, many members of the Potopsingh family, and hosts of loving friends, to whom she was an inspiration and a joy. Yvonne was a very special person, gentle, kind, and committed to goodness in every way. She believed we were put on earth to do good, and that is what she tried to do every day, and every hour, always. Yvonne’s memory, charm, and generosity, will be with her friends and family as long as they shall live. She was a charming person, who made the world a better place. Everyone who knew her will miss her sorely.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Yvonne’s life will be held at St. Cuthbert’s Anglican Church 1541 Oakhill Drive, Oakville on Saturday, February 26th, 2011 at 11:00 am.
