Yew Khoon Seah

Madam Seah Yew Khoon was born on October 5, 1932, in Swatow, a city on the eastern coast of Guangdong, a Teochew dialect province of China.

When she was nine years old, Yew Khoon escaped the Japanese occupation of China to Singapore, along with her brother Seah Boon Kwang and their mother, Lui Tang Hua.

At the age of 16, Yew Khoon married Mr Lim Hai Yong and had seven children: Margaret, Mary, Dave, Susan, John, Dolly and Ann.

Yew Khoon was a good wife, mother and friend. She enjoyed plants and gardening and had a collection of orchids in Singapore. Her love for gardening continued even after immigrating to Canada in 1986.

Yew Khoon was always resourceful and a quick learner. She learned her English from watching Wheel of Fortune. She picked up ideas from HGTV and fixed her own dripping tap. She memorized her favourite song, "As the Deer," and sang it with the congregation with much conviction.

She loved to watch the Blue Jays, the Toronto Maple Leafs,Amazing Race and Dancing With The Stars.

Her favourite foods were Kuey Teow Soup (flat rice noodles), Kuey chap, Wat Tan Hor, Chilli crab and Salmon Sashimi.

She loved her 12 grand children and six great grand children very much and they loved her back.

Yew Khoon lived a long and blessed life. She will be sorely missed but her memory and our love for her will last forever.
