Winnifred Rowe

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Winnifred Vincella Rowe, on Thursday April 30th, 2020 in Toronto, ON in her 96th year. The family would like to acknowledge the wonderful care she received from the staff at Altamont Care Community during her final years.

Winnifred was born in Clarendon, Jamaica on March 18, 1924 to mother Elsada Morgan and father Alexander Rowe. She was the 2nd of 7 children for her mother and is predeceased by her 6 siblings.

Winnifred would not hesitate to let anyone know that she was the mother of 12 children. At the time of her passing, she was the matriarch and cornerstone of a rather large family.

She immigrated to Canada from her native Jamaica in June 1979 to seek a better life. She worked as a nanny for her “adopted” family whom she loved and cared for deeply.

She was a devout Seventh Day Adventist who found fellowship at a number of churches in the Toronto area. These most recently include Bethel SDA and Parkdale SDA churches where she experienced unconditional love from an abundance of brethren and friends.

Over the years, she pursued her passion for sewing, creating many of the dresses she could be seen “modeling” in. She was able to travel to Florida to visit her daughter and to Guyana to visit her dear friend. She was stern and steadfast in her religion and provided sound biblical advice to family members at every visit.

She is survived by her children Alberitha, Urna, Owen, Beverly, Jetty Mae, Aldena and Letecia, many grand-children, great grand-children and great, great grand-children.

She has now found peace and comfort with the Lord after a long and rich life of 96 years. She will be forever loved and missed by all who she has been in contact with. May she rest in peace.

A celebration of life for Winnifred will be arranged in the near future when we can safely gather together once again.

In lieu of flowers, donations to her Seventh Day Adventist churches would be appreciated.
