March 8, 1920 – March 17, 2014
Winnie, born in England, came to Canada at the age of nine and was raised in Oakville.
From 1943 to 1946, she served in the RCAF.
Following the war, she attended the London Bible Institute and then served in a North Oakville Sunday School ministry which was the forerunner to Faith Baptist Church.
Winnie felt a call to missionary service in Japan and served there from 1951 to 1986. She and her partner, Dorothy Jeanes, were instrumental in the establishment of five Japanese churches.
On her retirement and return to Canada, she was active in Faith Baptist Church with a special heart for missions and was a prayer warrior for the missionaries.
Winnie is survived by her nephews Robert and his wife Lillian and Brian and his wife Ann and their respective families as well as her “adopted family”, Walter and Joy Gill.
Visitation will be held at Ward Funeral Home, 109 Reynolds Street in Oakville on Friday, March 21 from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. The service will be held at Faith Baptist Church, 1415 Trafalgar Road, Oakville, on Saturday March 22 at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to “Send International of Canada”, the mission in which Winnie served.
