BANKS, William 'Bill' Earnest - CD (Warrant Officer 2 Retired) Bill passed away in his 85th year after a courageous battle with cancer and degenerative neuropathy. Bill was a decorated World War II Veteran (wounded in Holland during action) followed by a 28 plus year distinguished military career in Canada's Armed Forces (Army). During his career, Bill spent many years away from family and friends. He served in the 'post war' army of occupation (1945-1947) followed by an additional three overseas tours: Europe (NATO, 1957-1959 and 1964-1967) and the Middle East (UN Peacekeeper 1959-1960). At the completion of his military service in 1969, Bill began a second career in the aircraft industry (DeHavilland Aircraft). He will be sorely missed by his loving wife of 60 years Violet, son Tom (Deborah), daughter Sherry (Larry) and grandchildren Diana (fiancé David), Andrew, Daniel, Jenna (Aaron) and Brandon. He will also be missed by his brother George Banks (Bubs predeceased), his sister Betty Riggs (Bob predeceased) sister-in-law Lillian Stiff (George predeceased) and family in England. Bill wanted a small service with family and close friends. Bill said 'old soldiers never die they just fade away.' A funeral service will take place on Friday, January 15, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Ward Funeral Home (52 Main St. S.), Brampton (at Hwy. 10). Interment to follow at Brampton Memorial Gardens. As expressions of sympathy, donations to The Salvation Army, War Amps or the Royal Canadian Legion would be greatly appreciated by the family.
