BRANDSEN, Willem (Bill) May 14, 1928 - January 31st, 2024
In loving memory of Bill, gone to be with his Lord and Saviour in his 96th year.
Bill was the cherished husband of Ria for 71 years, a father to Wendy (Peter), Linda (Bugs), Joyce (John +), and Jim (LuAnn), a grandfather to 9, and a great-grandfather to 9.
In 1951, Bill and Ria embarked on a courageous journey, leaving their native Netherlands to start anew in Canada. Bill's passion for gardening and long walks defined his days. Together with Ria, they operated a successful greenhouse business in Burlington, cultivating hothouse tomatoes and cucumbers . In his latter years, he dedicated his time to tending the gardens at Holland Christian Homes with great passion.
Among his achievements, Bill walked the entire Bruce Trail from Tobermory to Queenston Heights, a testament to his determination. He also took great pride in completing the four-day Nijmegen Vierdaagse walk in the Netherlands.
In retirement, Bill and Ria embraced adventure, travelling the world. They loved being snowbirds during the cold winter months.
For those who knew him well, Bill's favourite song was "He's Got The Whole World, In His Hands." This song held a special place in his heart, resonating even more profoundly in his final weeks.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests honouring his memory through donations to the Alzheimer's Society.
