After a very full and blessed life, in his 106 year, Willem VanderMeer passed this life and went to be with his Lord and Saviour on May 3, 2022 at Faith Manor, Brampton.
Husband to the late Paula VanderMeer of 68 years. He is survived by sister-in-law Audrey Mast. Predeceased by his 3 brothers and 1 sister and daughter in law Antoinette VanderMeer(wife to Nick)
Loving father to Nick (Barb Nolan) VanderMeer, Ary(Martha) VanderMeer, Evelyn (Pim) Boekestyn
Proud Opa to 12 grandchildren Elena(Neil), Corinna(Scott) Angie
Willem(Amanda), Glen(Tara Mae), John (Laura), Matthew(Alla), Andy (Kiley)
Pauline(Karl), Nicole(Markus), Mandy(Tim), Peter(Kendra) and 29 great grandchildren, who he dearly loved.
Willem was born in DeLier, Netherlands. Lost his father at the age of 2, lived through the depression era, was a soldier in World War 2, a member of the Vrijwillig Land Infantry 1200. Married Paula in 1943 and immigrated to Canada in 1948 with their son Nick of 2 years.
After a difficult start and always searching for opportunities began a landscaping company in the early 50 s About 8 years later started a poultry business in Markham. Where they were blessed with two more children Ary and Evelyn. He contributed his time in various committees with in CRC Church, assisting in developing a local church and Christian School in the Scarborough area.
He was always eager to assist those around him, with a helping hand, including the new immigrants from Holland,.
Teaching us his values and setting an example for life.
In 1968 moved to Barrie, to continue on with the poultry business.
When Dad turned 80 he and mom moved to Holland Christian Homes in Brampton, where they spend the rest of their days.
He loved the Lord and his trust in God is what sustained him and cared for him. We praise and thank God for the wonderful life He gave to Dad.
The celebration of life will be held at Heritage Hall at Holland Christian Homes, Brampton at 11 am on Monday May 9, 2022 For those wishing to view the livestream please follow this link
