On April 27, 2024, Mrs. Virty Millicent Grey (née Coley) went peacefully home to rest in the everlasting arms of her Lord and Savior. Virty’s life was a blessing to us all, and she will be greatly missed.
Virty was born on March 21, 1935, to Sylvester and Adeline Coley in the parish of St. Elizabeth, Jamaica. During her youth, Virty attended primary school in St Elizabeth and then high school and Shortwood Teacher’s College in Kingston, Jamaica. To enhance her expertise, Virty went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology in 1976 at York University and then a Bachelor of Education at the same institution in 1988. Before leaving Jamaica in 1966, Virty met her future husband, Dodd Grey. Dodd after some time immigrated to Canada, reconnecting with Virty whom he married on July 19, 1967, and they settled in Brampton.
Virty is lovingly remembered by her two children, Carla and Grace Grey; brothers, Leroy Coley and Wellesley (“Will”) Coley; nieces (Lavena Coley and Denise Coley-Wilson) and nephew (Brenton Coley); sisters-in-law (Daphne Coley, Joyce Coley, Tatlyn Coley, Nerissa Coley), as well as other relatives and friends. Virty was preceded in death by her husband, Dodd Grey; her parents, Sylvester and Adeline Coley; stepson, Lloyd Grey; and her brothers, Basil Coley and Maxwell (“Mac”) Coley. Though Virty is no longer physically with us, her memory will remain forever in our hearts.
Visitation will be on Friday, May 17, 2024, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Ward Funeral Home in Brampton.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Brampton with the Rev. Dean Noakes officiating.
Interment will follow at Glendale Funeral Home and Cemetery in Etobicoke.
