Dec. 16, 1930 – Feb. 17, 2017
Virginia (Ginny) passed away peacefully on Friday, February 17, 2017 at Credit Valley Hospital in Mississauga. Predeceased by her beloved husband John and her dear son John Gary, she is survived by her loving daughters, Nancy (Dr. Tony Vettese) and Kelly (Andrew Falls). “Beautiful Grandma” of Rebecca and Stephen Vettese and Gregory and Scott Falls. Special Aunt Ginny to her many nieces and nephews on both sides of the family. A graduate of Quo Vadis School of Nursing in 1968, she spent most of her career as a home visiting nurse advocating for and working with Muscular Dystrophy patients and their families through the Hospital for Sick Children and later with ALS patients through Sunnybrook Hospital. She was a long-time member and past President of WAMIC (Women’s Association of the Mining Industry of Canada) having a wide circle of friends in the close knit mining community. A lover of crossword puzzles, the ultra-perfect scrabble word, books and the English language, she was a wonderful story teller with a penchant for embellishing which always heightened the entertainment for family and friends. She was a traveller, at no time tiring of the excitement of a new city or country. She was the ultimate travel organizer, our father never quite sure where he was going until the day before. Mom was an animal lover, always having a dog in her life and will be missed by her current dog, Bonnie. Our heartfelt thanks to the staff at Walden Circle Retirement Community, Mississauga for their compassion and kindness over the last two years. And a special thank you to Dr. Barbara Clive and nursing staff on 1E at Credit Valley Hospital for helping Mom through these most difficult last few weeks.
