It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Vincenzo Facchini at the age of 92. Vincenzo was born in Balsorano, Italy on March 25, 1930; the third child and only son of Sabatino and Angela (nee Tersigni). He spoke often of his childhood memories growing up in Colle Castagno with his beloved sisters.
Vincenzo became a police officer and was stationed in Sardegna for almost seven years before moving to Canada with his entire family; leaving behind more than a few broken hearts.
In Canada, Vincenzo dedicated himself to learning English and becoming a Canadian citizen as soon as he was able to. Also in Canada is where Vincenzo met the love of his life, Mary (nee Sgro). Together they had two daughters and built a lifetime of memories living on Brandon Gate Drive in Malton.
Their lives were forever changed when Mary passed away in 1994. Vincenzo worked hard for his daughters to fill in the shoes their mother left behind. He found solace and made new friendships after joining the Associazione Nazionale della Polizia di Stato, but his heart truly beamed with pride when he became a Nonno.
Vincenzo was well informed in any subject from history, to politics, world news, and sports. He was a devout fan of Ferrari (Formula 1 racing) and Juventus (Italian soccer). Watching his favourite teams compete was an everlasting hobby.
Our Vincenzo leaves behind his loving daughters, Stefania and Romina, son in law Fredrick, grandchildren Roen and Hannah, sisters Giulia, Flora and Silvana, brothers and sisters in law Victoria, Joe, Sunday, Rose & Nick, Joyce & Frank, and Helen & Jim, and his many nieces and nephews. Along with Mary, Vincenzo will meet again with those who have left before him – sisters Gina and Maria, brothers in law Domenico, Paolo, Harold, Nicola, Franco, Donato, Lino and Frank, niece Anna, and nephews John, Ted, Giovanni, Carmine and Tony-Joe.
Dad, you were the best father that anyone could ask for. You were a gentleman from beginning to end and will be forever in our hearts. Roen and Hannah miss their Nonno so much and are waiting for you to join Noninka flying high in the sky.
Rest in peace now Dad – love you always, Stef and Romina xoxo
A special thank you to Gayma for taking great care of our Dad. He will miss you as much as you will miss him.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Vincenzo’s memory to a charity of your choice.
