It is with great sadness that the family of Vernon Albert Williams announces his passing on Tuesday, December 7, 2010, at the age of 91.
Vern will be forever and lovingly remembered by his wife of over 66 years, Margaret (Tate), and his children David, daughter-in-law Beth, daughter Patricia, son-in-law Craig, his 4 grandchildren, Michael, Heather, Holly, and Kellen, granddaughter-in-law, Nathalie, and sister, Mabel.
Born in Hamilton, Ontario on June 5, 1919 to Charles Williams and Hannah (Sheppard), Vern was a Veteran of WW II, where he served his country with pride and courage in the RCAF, earning the DFC for gallantry in action. After returning home, Vern joined the Steel Company of Canada, where he had a distinguished career as an accountant for 45 years. His contributions in the accounting field were also recognized in 1975, when he was appointed President of the Society of Industrial Accountants of Ontario, and a Fellow of the Society of Management Accountants of Canada.
Among his many passions and interests, Vern loved gardening, sports, reading, travel, and his Church, where he was a lifelong member of the United Church of Canada. But most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends. He was a great man, who will be much missed by all who knew him.
A Funeral Service in memory of Vern will be held on Friday, December 10, 2010 at 12:00 pm. at St. John’s United Church, 262 Randall Street, Oakville, Ontario. Those who so desire may make memorial donations to the Ian Anderson House, Oakville, Ontario, whose staff took such good, loving care of Vern in his final days.
Arrangements entrusted to Ward Funeral Home, 109 Reynolds Street, Oakville (905-844-3221)
