Verna Lillian Milley (nee Waldron)
After a lengthy illness, Verna Milley passed away on February 1, 2015 at the age of 93.
Born in Montreal on January 15, 1922 to Hannah (Pearl) and Percy Waldron, Verna was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, George Jacobs; sister Ruth (Harold) Taylor and brothers Richard (Henny) and Norman (Jean). Verna is survived by her son Douglas Grayston (Dawn Hicks); daughter Carol Andrea (Thomas) Roblin; brother William (Moyra), sister in law Edel, and many nieces and nephews.
Verna spent her early years in Montreal where she met George. They lived briefly in Moncton, New Brunswick, returning to Montreal where they raised their family. Verna and George retired to Oakville, Ontario in 1982 where they spent 25 happy years, vacationing in Florida during the winter months.
Verna was blessed with good health and many wonderful friends. Her passion for cooking was truly a gift. She was an ardent bridge player and enjoyed tutoring those new to the game. She also dedicated much time volunteering at her church, The Canadian Red Cross and CNIB.
Verna’s family would like to extend special thanks and appreciation to the palliative care unit at Sunnybrook Hospital.
Funeral service will be held at Ward Funeral Home, 109 Reynolds Street, Oakville, ON L6J 3K4 (905) 844-3221 on Friday, February 6 at 12 noon with visitation 1 hour prior (reception and lunch to follow the service).
