“Val – the Hairdresser”

August 6, 1944 – November 3, 2020

It is with a heavy heart our family has to say goodbye to a dear Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and sister. Val passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on November 3rd, 2020. There are not enough words to say how saddened we are by this great loss.

This lovely lady who always “dressed to the nines” and accessorized like no one we have ever met before, had the most beautiful, sparkling eyes and dazzling smile. Her personality matched what you saw on the outside. Val was a kind, generous and giving soul to anyone she met. She had the greatest ability to begin a conversation with anyone. Always friendly, always listening, always smiling.

Val became a hairdresser many years ago and of all places began working for L. Holden & Company who provided hairdressing services to most of the funeral homes in the Metropolitan and surrounding areas. This was a time when the funeral profession was mostly male dominated. Needless to say, everyone was very welcoming to her. She would usually arrive with donuts for her first call in the morning, carrying her case and walking in her very high heels. Could never figure out how she could do that.

Val had a great passion for collecting dolls, butterflies, Angels and Christmas decorations. She loved her feline girls and spoiled them royally. They stayed by her side most of the time and are missing her right now walking from room to room looking for her.

Val was very caring to her family, friends and work acquaintances and she kept all of us on our toes. She leaves behind her loving son Roger and his wife Debbie, her caring Grandson Branden and his partner Heidi, her sweet great grandchildren Kaitlyn, Jackson and Bethany, her “special girl” Donna, her beloved brother Murray and finally her devoted sister Louise and her husband Ken. Val was predeceased by her very dear husband Ken, her one and only greatest love and also predeceased by her brothers Carl and John. Her many nieces and nephews will miss her along with her other family and friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, November 6th at the Ward Funeral Home “Weston Chapel” from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Funeral Service will follow on Saturday, November 7th, 2020 at 3:00 PM. Please make donations to the charity of your choice in Valorie’s memory.
