Valgiene Dottin was born in St Georges, Grenada to Herbert and Eslyn Dottin on February 29, 1960. She was one of 8 children. She attended Concord Government School and after graduation and exams, she began her career in the Richmond Hill institutions (Mental health hospital, home for the aged and Carlton house ) in the accounts department.
She continued her career in the Finance Department of Grenada Ministry of Health.
In the early 1980s she immigrated to Toronto with educational and career goals.
She worked as a nanny during the day and continued her studies at Bathurst Heights and Centennial College at night to successfully earn an Associates Degree in Accounting. She was later employed by United Way (visiting homemakers) where she was featured in the news for her exceptional care of a family with triplets.
Valgiene’s accounting degree led her to become a customs rate officer at Fritz Starber where she received many awards for her proficiency and accuracy. She later became a senior customs rater at UPS Supply Chain Solutions.
Valgiene then began to encounter some health challenges that changed her daily routine. However, she always maintained hope in God to have a better level of health.
Valgiene loved the Lord and dedicated her time in service to Children’s Ministry and the Adventurer club. She became an Adventurer Master Guide (a first of its kind), Toronto Perth Adventurer Club Director, and an Ontario Conference Area Coordinator for Adventurers. Her love for children, education and God motivated her daily.
She is remembered as a:
Hard worker, writer, survivor, traveler, gardener, and an education promoter and loving mother, sister and friend.
She motivated her children to always be a Lion.
“A Lion, never a hyena!” It was a reminder to never settle in the quest to achieve goals, and always aim for the top.
Valgiene is survived by Garth, Sola and Ayodele (children).
Brooke and Brayden-Levi (grandchildren).
Her siblings: Cecil, Arisa, Maureen, Alvoer, Josiah and Jacintha.
Sharon Dottin ( Sister-in Law), Stephanie Dottin ( Sister in law) Melainie (daughter-in-law) and She also leaves behind many nieces,nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. .
She was preceded in death by Eslyn Dottin (mom), Herbert Dottin (dad) and Cotlyn Dottin (sister).
On August 13, 2021 she lost her battle to heart failure but her heart work continues and will always be remembered as our beloved Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Aunty, Cousin and Friend. We are comforted to know that she is a friend of God, He knows her name and we will see her soon in the Heavenly kingdom.
Visitation will be held on August 31st from 4 to 8 pm. The Funeral Service will be held at the Toronto Perth 7th Day Adventist Church, 220 Bethridge Road, Toronto at 11 am.
