It is with much love and sadness that we announce the passing of Ulisse Nino Fabbri. Born in Hamilton to Augusto (Charlie) Fabbri and Lucy Fabbri (nee: Del Fabbro), Nino died at Brampton Civic Hospital on New Year’s Day, surrounded by all of his children and grandchildren. Nino was the beloved husband of Joan (nee: Cousins) before her passing in 1993. He was a loving father to Chris (Carol), Joanne (Kevin), and Jonathan (Jennifer). Nino was a cherished Nonno to Rachel, Selina, Emily, Clare, Cole, Ava, Masi, Porter, and Moxum. Dear brother-in-law to Beryl (late Dave) and predeceased by brother Gerry and wife Brigitte. He will be missed by his nieces and nephew, his loving friends, and neighbours.
Nino was a devoted Nonno. He was present at all of his grandchildren’s births, celebrated every birthday, observed baptisms, first communions, confirmations, and attended graduations. All holidays were shared around Nonno’s cheerful table. Over the last 30 years, Nino drove thousands of kilometres to watch his grandchildren perform and compete in countless dance recitals, figure-skating competitions, school plays, games of lacrosse, basketball, soccer, quidditch and hockey. This is what Nonno loved to do.
Nino was educated at Boston University, where he studied business. After completing his degree, Nino was recruited in 1962 by CIL (Canadian Industries Limited) to join their sales team. Throughout the early part of his career, Nino and Joan, and their young family, worked and lived in Cooksville, Edmonton, Halifax, and Montreal before settling in Brampton in 1971. Nino retired in 1990 as the National Sales Manager for AT Plastics, formerly CIL. Soon after he was hired back as a management consultant, which he did for several years.
When not driving around the GTA to take in his grandchildren’s activities, Nino enjoyed reading mystery and detective novels, as well as consuming a daily diet of newspapers, magazine articles, and television news. He loved family gatherings, complete with an Italian dinner, a smooth Valpolicella, accompanied by stories and laughter. His trips to Italy with family and friends were festive affairs. Nino was a parishioner of St. Mary’s Church in Brampton for over 50 years. He spent much time outside, tending to his lawn, flowers and bushes. Nino loved playing golf with his brothers and friends, both locally, and on annual golf trips out west, and he enjoyed quarterly luncheons with his work buddies.
Family and friends will be received at Ward Funeral Home, 52 Main St. South, Brampton, on Wednesday January 8th from 2:00 -4:00 p.m. and 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Please join the family at St. Mary’s Church, 66 Main St. South, Brampton, on Thursday January 9th at 10:30 a.m. for the Funeral Mass. Cremation has taken place. Interment will follow at Meadowvale Cemetery.
In memory of Nino, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society.
