It is with heavy hearts that we gather to remember and celebrate the life of Uekin Campbell, who passed away peacefully on January 30, 2025, at the age of 79. Born on May 17, 1945, in the picturesque surroundings of St. Thomas, Jamaica, Uekin's journey through life was marked by honorable service, profound love, and a deep commitment to family and community. Uekin was a person of genuine warmth, known for his infectious laughter and gift of storytelling. A delightful presence in any gathering, he cherished every opportunity to share a joke or recount a fond memory. His straightforward nature and candid conversations endeared him to family, friends, and colleagues alike, establishing trust and respect wherever he went.
Raised in a loving home by his late parents, Clarabell Warren and Charleton Campbell, Uekin was one among a close-knit family. The family shared moments of joy and challenges that shaped his resilient spirit. After completing his education at Epping Farm Primary School, Uekin had many struggles throughout his childhood, which he overcome. As adulthood approached, Uekin embarked on a journey of service and dedication, carving out a distinguished career as a police officer. Known for his unwavering commitment to justice and helping others, Uekin was a beacon of strength for many in the community.
In his service, Uekin remained steadfast, navigating the challenges of his profession with integrity and a compassionate heart. His approach often included a blend of firmness tempered with empathy, qualities that naturally extended to his role as a husband and father. Uekin is survived by Madge Rowe, his long-life partner for over 60 years and mother of his eight children, which was one of his proudest achievements, paving the way for a family that celebrated him as a guiding force and with whom he shared a life rich in love and devotion. Uekin is also survived by his wife Delcita Lewis with whom he shared two sons.
Uekin was infinitely proud of his family, surviving him are sisters Mayble Campbell and Nicey Campbell, his sons, Gary, Clarence, Hugh, Dwayne, Dwight, Kevin, Jason and Thion Campbell, and his daughters, Joyce Taylor and Sherrina Campbell. Their lives are a testament to the values he instilled and the love he generously shared. Uekin's legacy will be carried on by his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins as well as the lasting memory of his predeceased son, Floyd Campbell, and brothers, Berrisford Cummings and Lyod Williams. In the wake of their loss, he remained a pillar to the family, offering comfort and support.
Despite the challenges that life presented, Uekin never lost his faith. As a moderately religious Christian, he held his beliefs close, drawing strength and solace, particularly during trying times. His faith was a guiding principle throughout his life, one that he imparted gently through words and actions.
The family invites friends and loved ones to join in a celebration of Uekin's life on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at Springview Church of God Pillar and Ground of the Truth, 89 Springview Ave., Toronto, Ontario. It will be a time to honor his memory, share stories, and find solace in the community that meant so much to him.
Uekin Campbell will be deeply missed but remembered fondly. His laughter, wisdom, and spirit remain with us, perpetually lighting our paths as we move forward.
As we bid farewell, we take comfort in the knowledge that Uekin's journey continues, riding on the wings of love that he so generously bestowed, secure in the embrace of those he has joined in eternal rest.
