In Loving Memory
TRYNTJE (TINA) VENEMA
Tina Venema was born in Tzummarum, Friesland in the Netherlands, on February 25, 1929. Her parents owned a little general store and Tina often helped make deliveries in the village. Tina loved school, collecting poems and being in the local drama club. She had many friends and had fond memories of her childhood. At the age of 21 she joined her family as they moved from Holland to Canada. Tina had a few young men as pen-pals but one special one stood out. Willem (Bill) was the favourite and she was happy to find out he lived in the same area that her family would settle in when they came to Canada. Bill picked them all up when they arrived at the train station in Toronto. The relationship blossomed and on June 28, 1951, Bill and Tina were married and went on to celebrate 64 years of marriage. Together they had 6 children, 18 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. Tina is predeceased by her husband Bill and their youngest son, Billy. Tina had an extra special spot in her heart for Billy and the two of them were inseparable until the day the Lord took Billy home to be with Him.
Tina was a ‘stay-at-home mom’ who clipped coupons, sewed many of the children’s clothing, cooked food from scratch, and helped in whatever way she could to make it possible for her to be at home with the children and still save enough money to send them to the Christian school. Tina loved to read mystery novels and spend time with her family. She was a loving Christian who cared deeply for others and was a strong supporter of those with disabilities. Tina was content and never complained, had a terrific sense of humour and ‘the patience of a saint’. Even in her last years in long-term care, she quickly made close connections to the staff of Grace Manor who cared for her. She was quick to say ‘Thank-you, thank-you!” At the end of every visit or phone call she would smile and say “I have to tell you – You behave yourself!”
On Saturday, December 9, 2023, Tina quietly passed away to be with her Lord and Saviour.
