Thomas Alfred (Fred) Sheffield 

Surrounded by his family, Fred passed peacefully and bravely after a year-long illness on February 21, 2025. Born in Toronto on September 26, 1936 to Mabel Gwendoline (nee Osmond) and Thomas Alfred Sheffield Sr. Devoted & beloved husband of 68 years to Noreen (nee Jones) and loving father to Sandra Sheffield and Suzanne Mocherniak (Basil). Cherished Grandpa/Papa to Dimitri & Alex Sevastakis and Matthew & Adam Mocherniak. Much-loved uncle and great uncle, respected colleague and dear friend to many. 

Family, community service, faith and fairness were among Dad’s core values. He was consistently kind, thoughtful and dependable, our biggest cheerleader and most loyal advocate. Playing baseball in Leaside was Dad’s passion as a youth, excelling at shortstop. His 33-year career with Osram Sylvania earned him the respect of his peers and the loyalty of his employees. 

Fred enriched the lives of countless families during his many years as volunteer head coach at Lakeshore Swim Club, and he expressed his faith through service at St. Richard of Chichester, St. Philip’s & St. George’s on-the-Hill Anglican parishes. In retirement, Dad took up tennis and joined the local PROBUS chapter, expanding his already considerable network of friends. 

Funeral service 11am Sat March 1 at St. George’s on-the-Hill Anglican Church, 4600 Dundas St W, Etobicoke. 

In lieu of flowers, a donation to your local food bank or charity of choice would be preferred and very much appreciated.
