PHILIPS, Thomas (Tom) Ernest
August 28, 1947 - October 31, 2022
On October 31, 2022, at the age of 75, Tom passed away peacefully with his loving wife, Glenda, at his side, at The Dorothy Ley Hospice.
He was a devoted husband to Glenda for 25 years. Their love for each other was infinite, especially through Tom’s cancer journey, they became inseparable.
Tom set a true example of how to be a loving, caring, and very kind Husband, Father and Grandfather.
He was the proud Father of a son, Matthew, and much loved daughter Catherine.
He was a very loving, kind and caring Grandfather to six grandchildren.
Tom was a very special Brother to his only Sister, Mary Anne MacGregor.
He will also be remembered fondly by many nieces and nephews.
Tom will be greatly missed by family and friends all around the world, and indeed, all whom he came in contact with, and whose lives he touched in some small way.
He truly tried to make the world a better place with his kind heart, and kindness to others.
It goes without saying, he will be sorely missed by his devoted friend, Bob Yarnell, who tirelessly spent countless hours at Tom’s bedside during the last several weeks of Tom’s life at Humber River Hospital and the Dorothy Ley Hospice.
Tom worked in the Transportation Industry for over 40 years.
After many years working at TST as Vice President and General Manager, Truckload Express & Load Brokerage Divisions, his career in the Trucking World ended.
Tom and Glenda, throughout their marriage, took many trips to Hawaii, the Caribbean and the U.S.A., visiting with friends in Connecticut and Florida. In retirement,Tom and Glenda continued to enjoy many trips to Sandals Royal Caribbean Resort & Private Island, in Montego Bay, Jamaica, where they were treated “Royally” by the many wonderful Managers and Staff. On those trips many lasting and wonderful friendships developed over the years.
Sadly, in February 2021, Tom was faced with a new road to travel, a cancer journey.
Together, Tom and Glenda faced the most challenging times of their lives, on this “new journey”, that turned their world upside down.
He travelled on this journey with his loving and devoted life partner at his side every step of the way, right to the very end! Tom went to battle on this journey, and fought courageously. He was always hopeful that he could beat it. However, God had other plans for his life, and took him out of his pain and suffering. He is now in a far better place!
Cremation has taken place, and a Private Family Graveside Service was held on Thursday, November 10, 2022 at Sanctuary Park Cemetery in Etobicoke.
