Survived by his brother David Dunkin, and predeceased by his sister Elmina Raker, brother John Dunkin and sister Elizabeth Head. Gilbert was born and raised in Aldershot, Ontario. He attended Wheaton College in Illinois where he received his B.Sc. in Chemistry. Returning home to marry Hester, Gilbert joined the British Air Commission and was stationed at various aircraft plants in the U.S. during WWII. After the war, Gil began what was to be a long and enjoyable career in the aircraft industry. Chief among those were marketing positions at Avro Aircraft, Canadair and DeHavilland (now Bombardier), although working on the Avro Jetliner was a highlight of his career. Of upmost importance to Gil was his devotion to his family and an unwavering commitment to his Lord. He led an active life, running boys clubs, teaching Sunday school, playing the piano and saxophone, painting, writing, supporting numerous charities, boat building, ski trips and spending time at his favourite place, the family cottage in Muskoka. After Hester died, he re-connected with and married an old college friend Cecilia, spending the last 13 special years commuting back and forth between Toronto and San Francisco. Gil lived a full and stimulating life, impacting many others and was looking forward in his last days to going home to heaven. 'I fought the good fight, I've finished the race, I have kept the faith, and now is my reward'. Gil would join his family in expressing their deep gratitude for all the support he's received over the years and especially over the last difficult months.
