Peacefully on Sunday, July 28th, 2019, Thomas Dean, loving husband, father, and grand-father passed away at age 88.
Thomas is greatly missed by his beloved wife Jean, his three loving children, Linda (Jules), Steven (Jenette) and David (Joanne) and by his cherished grandchildren Rebecca, Rachel, Kurtis, Trevor and Connor. Dad is predeceased by his parents Frederick and Elsie (nee Toll) his brother Fred, and his sisters Wyn and Betty.
Dad was born on May 16th, 1931 in London England. On July 15, 1955, he married Jean Smith and the couple emigrated a few years later and began their life and raising their family in Toronto. Dad was a tool and die maker by trade and spent most of his career contributing to the design and construction of industrial plants through Praxair’s engineering group.
Rarely seen in the world without a hat and sports coat, dad was a fan of progressive jazz music and was an avid reader of classic literature. We marveled at his repertoire of poetry and how he could spontaneously recite even the lengthiest of them by heart. Dad loved playing, watching, thinking, talking, reading or anything to do with golf. His wardrobe included a set of homemade, long sleeve, button down golf motif shirts which were well known at the Humber Valley Golf course where he volunteered for many years as a marshal.
The family is holding a Remembrance Gathering on Saturday, August 3rd from 2pm to 4pm at Ward Funeral Home at 2035 Weston Road (north of Lawrence Ave. W.), Toronto. Donations in honour of our dad can be made to Matthews House Hospice at 131 Wellington St. E Alliston ON L9R 1G7.
