Ted Howard

Ted Howard (June 8, 1931 – March 6, 2014)

March 6 – After struggling with Alzheimer’s for more than a decade, TED sailed peacefully in the ever-after, in the loving company of his family.
Ted is survived by his wife Frances, daughters Robin (Rick) and Linda (Danny), grandchildren Leslie (Don), Shannon, Erin (Benoit), Jimmy, Matraca and Hunter; great grandchildren Caitlin, Colton, Quinton, Evelyn and Rose. He will also be missed by his brother in laws Horace Byford and Ralph Brown, as well as sister in law, Margaret Byford Bigelow. Ted is predeceased by his brother Bob (Robert).
Ted had a passion for sailing, spending many days sailing on Lake Ontario, he also taught with the Power Squadron and was a founding member of OOFYC (Our Own F***** Yacht Club). For many years Ted was also a Volunteer Fireman with the Brookline Fire Department.
Born in Leeds County, England to Pearl and Robert , Ted was an avid traveller; first leaving for Canada in his early 20’s to start a new life where he met Frances, and settled down in the Montreal area before leaving for Brampton, Ontario in 1980.
After retirement Ted continued his love of travelling, going on cruises with Fran in the Caribbean, a perfect combination of warmth, adventure and sailing. He also spent weeks every year in Bermuda staying with his buddy Ernest and later travelled annually to Cuba where he could escape the harsh Canadian winters to enjoy a beer and the sun and sand.
In keeping with Ted’s wishes, there is no funeral. Ted expressed the wish to go somewhere warm when he passed. Ted’s wish will be granted. He is departing for his favorite vacation spot, Varadero Cuba with Rick, Robin and Shannon, where his ashes will be sprinkled into the warm Caribbean water. A gathering to celebrate Ted’s life will be held at the family cottage on Cross Lake, the long weekend in August to toast a life well lived.
Our family would like to express our gratitude and a huge thank you to all the staff at Woodhall Park Specialty Care for their wonderful care of Ted during his stay. It was home to Ted for over 7 years.
Ted was an animal lover, at heart. Over the years he shared his life with many dogs including Laddy, Teddy, Honey, Sparky and Bick (Biscuit).
