Susan DiMarco (nee Ranney)
On Friday, October 19, 2012 Susan passed away in the presence of loved ones. Loving Mother to Kim (Mino), Tony (Tina), and Ken, doting grandmother to Luca and Lila. Susan will be missed by her sisters Karen Ranney and Pam Williams (John) and her many friends. Susan served the Brampton community for over 20 years. First elected to city council as Ward 5 Alderman in 1985, she then took on the position of Executive Director of Brampton Downtown Development Association in 1991. Susan re-entered politics in 1997 to serve as Ward 4 City Councillor and in 2000 was elected as Wards 3 & 4 Regional Councillor.
Susan was instrumental in developing many of the programs currently enjoyed by the residents of Brampton including the relocation of the Farmers Market to Main St., the Thursday night concert series in Gage Park and the first hour free parking program. A supporter of the arts, Susan brought the DuMaurier Jazz festival to Brampton for a period of time and advocated the establishment of the Rose Theatre in the downtown core. A tribute is to be incorporated into the Garden Square water wall as a salute to her public career.
Family and friends will be received at the Ward Funeral Home “Brampton Chapel” 52 Main Street South (Hwy 10) in Brampton on Sunday from 7-9pm and Monday from 2-4 and 7-9pm. Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, October 23rd at 1pm at Christ Church Anglican, 4 Elizabeth St N. Brampton. Interment Churchville Cemetery.
