A beloved husband, father, grandfather, friend, and pillar of the Weston community, Stephen "Steve" Allen was a man whose generosity, humour, and dedication to his family left a lasting imprint on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Originally from Liverpool, Steve moved to Canada as a young boy with his parents, Charlie and Margaret, and his older sister, Sue. From an early age, he embodied the hardworking spirit and warm-hearted nature that would define his life.
For many years, Steve and his father owned and operated Allens Scottish Butcher at Weston Road and Church Street—a cherished local staple, known for its famous steak pies, haggis, and breakfast links. Through their shop, they nourished not only through food, but also through the spirit of “back home”, greeting customers as friends and fostering a place of connection.
Steve was a devoted son, a loving husband to his wife Josie, and a proud father to his four children: Jesse, Ashley, Samantha, and Lucas. To his five grandchildren—Charles, George, Christopher, Vanessa, and Lamise—he was affectionately known as “Pop”.
Steve had a heart for his community and a passion for bringing people together. He dedicated countless hours coaching little league baseball and hockey, ensuring that his children and many local kids had the opportunity to play, learn, and grow. He even co-founded the Pelmo Park Baseball League, giving local children a league and place to play. When he wasn’t coaching, Steve was a valuable player himself, playing in a men’s slo-pitch league for many years.
Steve was the kind of man who would put on free fireworks displays for families on Canada Day, just to see the joy on kids’ faces. The kind of community-oriented man who, on the coldest winter mornings, would wake up before dawn to flood the local outdoor rink—one he had built himself—so the community could enjoy free skating. His stories, his laughter, and his unwavering kindness made him unforgettable.
Steve lived with a sense of purpose, always giving, always sharing, always putting his family first. His absence leaves a space that cannot be filled, but his legacy of love, generosity, and community spirit will continue in the lives he touched.
Steve will be profoundly missed by his family, friends, and all those fortunate enough to have known him.
Donations to the Princess Margaret Foundation would be greatly appreciated by the family.
