A loving and devoted daughter.
Stephanie was the cherished daughter of Inez and Frank De Maio, and loved dearly by her family and friends.
Vivacious and hilarious, the brightest person in the room.
Full of passion and an intensity that could move mountains.
These are just a few characteristics you could use to describe Stephanie. She was all of these things and so much more.
Those who were lucky enough to call her a friend know that they were more like family to Stephanie. She could always be counted on to help with whatever was needed, and often knew what someone needed before they even had to ask. Stephanie had the same kind of devotion to her patients: first at West Park Long Term Care where she did her internship, then at St Joseph’s Health Centre and St Michael’s Hospital. She had a passion for education, and dedicated countless hours to teaching. Her favourite class to teach was Nutrition at George Brown College.
Stephanie also loved animals with the same fierceness she applied to most everything in her life. Many of us no doubt remember Bowie the Boston Terrier, whom she often referred to as her sonand she did indeed care for him as one would a child. She loved visiting Riverdale Farm for the sheep and the goats, but the old donkey was her favourite. She was passionate about music, and obsessed over artists like Madonna, The Cure and Curve to name but a few.
Where I see the sun from
There’s a horror in my head
When the blanket is gone
From the floor in my castle
Where I see the sun from
In the comfort of this room
The challenge died
Remember you and me
We laughed ‘til we cried
Lyric excerpt – Horror Head, Curve
Stephanie left us far too soon, but if social media tells us nothing else it is that she will forever live on in those of us who loved her most.
A more beautiful person I will never meet.
I shall miss you dearly.
My heart is broken in a million pieces.
May you finally find peace.
