July 27, 1931 – April 24, 2024
Shirley Munden was born on July 27th 1931, in Toronto Ontario. Her parent’s Ida and Claude Barns, were from Rochdale, England. She was the youngest of five children Nelly, Tom, Gene, Eileen and Shirley.
She met Reginald (Jerry) Munden at a dance hall. Who later on became her husband. Dancing and bowling were one of their favourite pass times. They were married on July 8, 1950 and were married for 57 years until Jerry passed away in 2007. They moved to Weston in the early 1950’s. The lived on Ranwood Street in a three-bedroom bungalow. They had a pear tree in the backyard and Shirley would make many pear-oriented desserts and preserves as baking was something that she enjoyed very much. They were the proud parents of five children, two girls and three boys.
Shirley is predeceased by her loving husband Jerry, and by her children Lynn, Bonnie and Tom.
Survived by her sons Paul (Jayne), and Christopher (Jannette), her son in law Carl, and by her grandchildren Marika, Anders, Aaron, Adam, Amy, Shannon, and by her great-grandchildren whom she was so proud of.
Besides being a loving wife and mother, Shirley also worked at Rogers cable, and at a lawyers offices completing clerical work, but while at home, her husband Jerry enjoyed playing the Piano and Shirley enjoyed listening and singing along. Shirley would also like to play crochet in the backyard. She enjoyed being social and made many wonderful friends over the years. Shirley was known as one of the sweetest mothers on the street. During one summer Shirley’s family packed a station wagon of 11 people and two cats to a cottage at Clear Lake for the summer. She also loved animals and had many different cats throughout her lifetime.
2007 was an incredibly difficult year for Shirley as she lost her oldest daughter Lynn and her husband Jerry. After Jerry passed away Shirley lived alone in their home for an additional 9 years.
In 2016 Shirley was moved into Weston Terrace (a nursing home). Shirley participated in many outings, movie nights and socials at Weston Terrace and made many friends. She spent eight years at Weston Terrace, until on April 24th 2024, in her 92 year when she passed away peacefully in her room.
She will be remembered as a women with strong family values and for her sweet nature.
In this time of loss, we also celebrate the beautiful moments and memories Shirley gave to us.
