Shirley McGregor
September 13, 1927 – May 7, 2021
It is with great sadness that the family of Shirley McGregor (nee Ford) announces her peaceful passing, at Humber River Hospital on Friday, May 7, 2021 in her 94th year. Beloved wife of Percy (2013), sister to Joan (2014) and Ken Power (2011), and loving mother to Rob (Carole McGregor) and Lori (Dale Haynes). Shirley will be deeply missed by her grandchildren. Her “guys” Scott, Sean & Andrew McGregor and “girls” Meaghan, Lindsey and Kelsey Haynes.
Mom was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Dorothy (1991) and Lewis Ford (1959) and eventually moved to Toronto and settled into a loving family home on Harvey Avenue. Mom met a handsome usher at a local theater named, “Percy” and on June 26, 1948, they were married. Shortly thereafter, they purchased a home that Mom was able to live independently in until her final days. Shirley & Percy’s home was full of love and shared with family and friends. They were known as terrific hosts who knew how to throw a great party or celebrate a special occasion. Mom worked as a teller for the TD Bank until it was time to raise her family. She attended hockey games for Rob and actively participated in the parent association for the 400 Lions Majorette and Drum Corps with Lori. She eventually worked part-time at Eaton’s in Yorkdale for many years. Summer vacations were spent at Wasaga Beach and years later at Thunder Beach. Mom and Dad loved to travel with their vast network of friends they made through the Rameses Shrine Club and Daughters of the Nile. They built lifetime friendships with their Shrine friends. We want to express our deepest gratitude to June and John Forbes and Mom’s neighbours who have been a constant support to her and our family. Your devotion and kindness will never be forgotten. Mom enjoyed music, playing cards, reading pop culture, and doing her word searches; however, she was happiest when surrounded by family and friends and especially when she was with her “guys and “girls”. Our family is truly grateful for a lifetime of treasured memories we built with our parents and grandparents that we will forever hold dear in our hearts. Mom is finally reunited with Dad whom she missed terribly after 64 years of marriage. Be well Mom and may God rest your soul. You will forever be missed.
A private family service and interment at Prospect Cemetery in Toronto will be held on Wednesday, May 12, 2021. In lieu of flowers, please consider random acts of kindness and expressions of gratitude in Mom’s memory. A donation to the Shriners Hospitals for Children – Canada or to the charity of your choice is also appreciated. Respecting the current situation and pandemic restrictions, the Funeral Service and Interment will be private.
