TAVERNER, Sandra Ann Sherburn (née Hall) — It is with much sadness that Sandra’s family announces her peaceful passing on April 12, 2017 at age 76, at Joseph Brant Hospital in Burlington, Ontario. Beloved wife of the late Colin Gordon Taverner. Cherished mother of Nancy and her husband David Brandauer and Linda and her husband Derek Shalton. Grammie extraordinaire to Benjamin, Caleb and Ethan. Baby sister to Joyce (Mel) and Isabelle (Charlie). Loving mommy to the world's best dogs, Sammy and Roxie. Predeceased by parents Frank and Mertial Hall. Sandra’s career spanned decades and had many chapters—first as a grade school teacher, then as a stay-at-home mom, and finally as an ESL teacher to new Canadians. She enjoyed her retirement spending time with her family in Canada and Iowa, scrapbooking and spoiling her dogs. Sandra will be greatly missed by family members and those whose lives she touched, including many of her former students who became close and enduring friends. Sandra’s family is comforted and grateful for the support she received from the caring nursing staff and doctors at Joseph Brant, the staff at Lasalle Park Retirement Community, and her extended family and friends that helped her along her final journey. Family and friends will be received at Ward Funeral Home, 109 Reynolds St., Oakville, 905-844-3221, on Saturday, April 15 from 2-5 p.m. Service to be held in the chapel on Monday at 12 p.m. Burial at Trafalgar Lawn Cemetery. Donations to Muscular Dystrophy Canada (www.muscle.ca) in Sandra’s name would be appreciated by the family.
