Ruth Evelyn Howes

March 27, 1927 – February 9, 2015

On February 9, 2015 the world lost its most beautiful light as Ruth danced her way into the arms of her adoring husband, mother, father and stepmother. Ruth “Tootie” passed away peacefully with her children by her side. She fashioned a world for those around her that was full of love, laughter and passion. With the grace and poise of an old film star she brought an undeniable energy and elegance into every room she entered. Her loss to those who love her is immeasurable, because her presence in our lives was so profoundly substantial, inspiring and treasured. Ruth was an energetic woman who valued friendships and family above all else. Never a dull or quiet moment was had when Ruth was present. Famous for her verbal endurance, Ruth’s stories and commentaries will always be remembered fondly and Brampton’s Senior’s line dancing will never be the same without her.

Ruth was born in Barrie, Ontario to Arthur Robinson and Dora May (nee White). She grew up with her two sisters, Joyce and Eleanor, hopping fences, stealing vegetables from neighbours, swimming, and biking. Despite losing her mother at the age of 7 and living through the Depression and a World War, Ruth grew to be one of the most sincere, nurturing, strong and generous women anyone could ever meet. Credited with being the secret to his success, Ruth spent 59 wonderful years married to the love of her life, Raymond Howes and together they raised two children, Daryl (Tina) and Diane (Rick), traveled most of Europe (several times), enjoyed decades at the family trailer, boating and making memories with their family. Ruth was the ever-present and amazingly loving grandmother to four grandchildren: Laura (Jeff), Michelle, Ryan (Brittany) and Shannon (Steve) and has been a cherished blessing to her two great grandchildren: Benjamin and Riley. With more energy than most 20 years old, Ruth line danced three times a week, went to Bingo, Aquafit, Sit and Shape, shopping, movies and more shopping. She will also be deeply missed by her nieces and nephews, brother and sisters-in-law, her line dancing, traveling, bus trips and shopping friends, neighbours old and new, pharmacists, doctors… everyone.

A service to celebrate her life is being held at Ward’s Funeral Home, 52 Main Street South, Brampton: Friday, February 13, 2015 from 2-4. Family visitation is from 1-2pm.
