On October 11, 2023, we bid a heartfelt farewell to Rosemary Catherine Sullivan, who passed away surrounded by the love that she so generously gave throughout her life.
Born on July 9, 1940, Rosemary is survived by her devoted husband, Frank Sullivan, and their ten children: Lynn (Drew), Laura (Warren), Michael (Esther), Thérèse (Stefano), Paul (Jennifer), Frank (Diane), Kathleen (Billy), Shelagh (Jimmy), Adrienne (Arlindo) and Eryn (Justin). Rosemary's love for Frank was measured in the knowing glances, the perpetual teasing, and the laughter that echoed throughout their 63 years of marriage. Together, they were an inspiring team, navigating the complexities of life with grace, resilience, and faith.
She instilled the values of love and compassion in her children, who she raised with an iron will, “the look”, humour, and a warm heart.
Rosemary's intelligence was as sharp as her wit. A voracious reader of thriller novels and lifelong learner, she tackled crossword puzzles with ease, her nerve demonstrated in her choice of a pen. Her sharp mind was matched only by her unwavering strength, a trait that sustained her through the triumphs and tribulations of a life well-lived.
In addition to her ten children, Rosemary leaves behind a legacy of laughter and love that extends to her seemingly countless grandchildren: Drew, Laura (Steve), Jeff (Jaden), Katie, James, Julia (Humberto), Ben (Katerina), Miscia (Mahir), Ado, Jason, Sam, Owen, Ben, Ryan, Sadie, Kristen, Matthew, Cameron, Bailey, Jacob, Nathan, Aaron and great-grandchildren Shai and Max. Her home on Wards Island was a haven to all, where holiday gatherings were a riot of noise and copious amounts of desserts.
A funeral in honour of Rosemary will take place on Saturday October 21, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Basilica, with a reception to follow.
Rosemary's charitable deeds were not just acts of kindness but a way of life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Ernestine’s Women’s Shelter
