We announce the peaceful passing of Rose Sgro, on September 18, 2024, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on December 28, 1942, in Gagliato, Italy, to Antonia and Giuseppe Gallello.
Beloved wife of Salvatore for 61 years. Devoted mother to Tina (Domenic), Sandra (Barry) and Stephen (Kathleen). Cherished Nonna to Victor, Mateo, Lucas, Julian and Owen. Dear sister of the late Nick (Rose), late Joe (Ella), Frank (Bruna) and Esther (Michael) and dear sister-in-law to many. She will be lovingly remembered by her extended family, especially her cousins, nieces and nephews.
A woman of strength beyond expectation, Rose was dedicated to her family and was the matriarch of her household. Her eyes lit up when she was surrounded by her loved ones. There are no words to describe her immeasurable love for them. She was exceptionally proud of her grandchildren and all they accomplished and was their biggest cheerleader when watching them play hockey and baseball. At every visit, she would sneak them a homemade treat or monetary gift.
Her family recalls her working passionately and coming home to prepare meal after meal with great joy, always providing for her family. Her specialties were her traditional rice balls, cutlets, and pastina, always prepared with love. She was adored by all, family, coworkers, and neighbours alike.
Rose is remembered as a devout Catholic, a long-time volunteer with Share Life through her parish, All Saints Roman Catholic Church. She lived her faith daily with her kindness and love for others. She volunteered for the Canadian Cancer Society and the Heart and Stroke Foundation, giving her time willingly and supporting these organizations that she believed in.
When thinking of Rose, we can agree that she has been a pillar of strength, a source of unwavering love, and a woman who always put the needs of others first. Her grace, humility and genuine kindness touched the lives of everyone she met. Her legacy of love and compassion will live on in the hearts of those she touched.
All are welcome to gather at Ward Funeral Home, Weston Chapel, 2035 Weston Road, Toronto on Sunday, September 22, 2024, from 2:00-6:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held at All Saints Catholic Church, 1415 Royal York Road, Etobicoke, on Monday, September 23, 2024, at 9:30 a.m.
