RONALD NEIL ROBERTSON Q.C. OCTOBER 14, 1930 ­ JANUARY 12, 2011 Ron died peacefully at Trillium Health Centre Mississauga surrounded by his family. Beloved husband of Sheila Frances, son of Colonel J.G. and Lydia Robertson. He is lovingly remembered by his children, David (Kelly), Neil (Tricia), Sarah (Adam), Colin (Amy) and grandchildren Kate, Ella, Nan, Molly, Cooper, Rosie and Jessica. He is survived by his brother Gordon Robertson and sister Lucille Douglas. Ron was born in Regina, Saskatchewan, educated at Merchant Taylor's School England; Dalhousie University BA 1952; Oxford Magdalen College BA 1954, BCL 1955, MA 1983; Osgoode Hall Law School LLB 1957. He was Rhodes Scholar for Nova Scotia in 1952. In 1957 he was called to the Bar of Ontario and joined the law firm, Fasken Calvin (now Fasken Martineau) of which he was later the Chairman. Ron dedicated his life to the law, practicing in the fields of bankruptcy and receivership, being involved in many of the most significant Canadian and international insolvencies during his fifty years of service to the profession. He was the Chairman of the CDIC Board of Directors 1999-2005. He has served on a number of boards both in the corporate and not-for-profit worlds, including acting as ViceChairman of the Wellesley Institute. Ron's life was shaped principally by his love of the law, especially the Common Law. He sought through his work in insolvency and in governance to connect law and institutions to the public good and human welfare. He has also been actively involved in legal education and law reform throughout his career. Family and friends may be received at the Ward Funeral Home, 52 Main St. S., Brampton (Highway 10), on Sunday, January 16 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m., Monday January 17, 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A private family service to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Headwaters Hospital (Orangeville) or Trillium Health Centre Mississauga.
