Roderick Neil McArthur had a way of making the world feel warmer. His laughter filled every space with joy, and his natural charm made every conversation feel like a reunion of old friends. He thrived in gatherings, effortlessly recalling names, connections, and cherished stories. Whether at his morning coffee group, a Kiwanis Club meeting, a Saturday family dinner, or behind the wheel, Roderick found joy in lively discussions, sharing a laugh, and brightening someone’s day with his presence.
Once he started a conversation, it wouldn’t take long before he mentioned his children—what he proudly called his greatest accomplishment. He loved them and their families deeply, and nothing brought him more joy than knowing they were living lives filled with passion, direction and love. A devoted father, son, and brother, he shared stories of the past, remembering and celebrating his family history. The values he cherished—curiosity, generosity, and getting lost in a good book—are now woven into the lives of his children and grandchildren.
His legacy is one of laughter, kindness, and unwavering love. He made people feel special, always welcomed and deeply cared for, a kindness that will be remembered forever. He believed that a kind word, a helping hand, or a shared moment could bridge gaps and bring people closer together. Though his presence will be deeply missed, his memory will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
Roderick passed away on February 14, 2025, at the age of 78, with family by his side. He leaves behind his children, Neil McSheim (Monica), Sarah Piron (Andrew), and Ruth McArthur (Jordan); his grandchildren, James and Edward McSheim, Ernie and Lucy Piron; his siblings, Ian and Helen McArthur and former wife Rosemary McArthur.
A visitation will be at Ward’s Funeral Home, Brampton, on Sunday 23rd, February from 2 - 4 pm. Instead of flowers, donations in his honour can be made to William Olser Health System to continue his legacy of kindness and community.
