Passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 11, 2016, at the age of 86. Predeceased by his loving wife Yvonne (Bonny). Proud father of Janice (Tim Hill) and John (fiancée Michelle). Cherished Grandad of Christopher, Matthew, Anna and Sarah. Dearest friend of cousin Ron. Bob will be sadly missed by his many friends and family.
Bob was born in London, Ontario, the only child of Maurice and Mary Isabel Westland.
In the 1950’s, Bob completed officer’s training, at Base Borden. He finished 2nd in his class, but not before annoying his instructors, by tying his used white hankerchief to the aerial of the tank he was riding in. He wasn’t surrendering, just looking for a place to dry it.
Bob began his career as a salesman, selling encyclopedias door to door in London. Then Bob sold Blue Cross Insurance to store owners and their employees. He worked for over 30 years and retired as Vice-President of Underwriting.
Bob loved to go garage sale-ing after he retired. He always loved a good bargain. He even had his picture taken by the Toronto Star, for a story on avid garage salers.
Bob was very active in the Scouting movement, both in London, Ontario, and Downsview.
Bob loved to listen to live music, and he also loved to sing. He was an avid reader, always having a book in his hand. He enjoyed public speaking, and was honoured by being asked to speak to the Missouri State Legislature about universal health care.
At Bob’s request, there will be no public visiting or service. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
