Robert Reid

April 28, 1944 — January 16, 2017

Robert Reid

On Monday January 16, 2017, with sunlight streaming into his room and surrounded by family, Rob passed away gently at age 72. Rob is predeceased by his parents William and Margaret and step-mother Irene, but leaves behind a large and extended loving family who enriched his life – his devoted wife of 49 years, Pat, brother Gordon of Mississauga, daughter Kim of Calgary, sons Michael (Vera) of Schnottwil, Switzerland and Scott (Kerrie) of Toronto. Rob was the enormously proud grandfather of Owen, Nate, Gwyn and Evan. He will be remembered with great fondness and respect by his mother and father-in-law, Marion and Bob Washburn of Oakville, his brothers-in-law Peter (Glady) Washburn, John Washburn and John Scanlon, his nieces and nephews and the Walton family, his many cousins and his beloved uncles Reg (101) and Art (97).
Rob was born in St. Boniface, Manitoba on April 28, 1944. He was ever the proud Bison. He earned his degree in Commerce and Finance at the University of Toronto in 1966 and was a Chartered Accountant, a partner at the firm of Smith Nixon LLP for his entire professional career. In 2014, Bob was elected a Life Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario. Rob enjoyed all sports, in particular curling, golf, fishing, loved his Toronto Blue Jays and was a long-standing member of the Boulevard Club of Toronto. With Pat, he enjoyed worldwide travels, the family cottage and great times with dear friends. Without Pat, he got to enjoy his Roy Orbison tunes. A private family funeral will be held at a later date followed by a party with family and friends in early summer. Bob loved a party!
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Michael’s Hospital Hemophilia Comprehensive Care Program or to the Sandra Schmirler Foundation.
