ROBERT (BOB) V. DOTY
(March 12, 1923 – July 24, 2010)

At Trillium Health Centre, Mississauga Bob passed away after a brief battle with Cancer. Survived by his loving wife of 64 years Lois (Cline), sisters Bernice Bradbury, Lorraine Kirk and brother Mel Doty, Sister in law Rose Doty, Brother in laws Merlin Cline and his wife Pat, Ron Cline and his wife Marianne, children Brian, his wife Carol and their children, Ehren, his wife Stacey and great-granddaughter Leighton and Samantha, Lance, his wife Catherine and their children Ian and his wife Mercedes and Emily, Debbie Raven and her husband Tom and children Wes Pender, his wife Jenn and great-granddaughter Portia and Nicole Pender and her Husband Andrew King, Kevin and his wife Robin and children Blair, Aubrey and Paige.

Immediately on his return from Overseas duty with the Royal Canadian Navy, he rejoined the Canadian National Railways rising from a clerk in the Industrial Development department to Regional Manager, Governmental & Community Relations prior to his retirement in 1986.

Recognizing the value of his many years of service to the railway, the CNR and CPR as partners in Toronto Terminal Railways retained him on contract until 2001.

Bob took an active part in many professional and community organizations. His tireless dedication in making his community a better place held him in high esteem with all who met him in this capacity. He was a founding member and President of the Canadian College Bowl, now the Vanier Cup that represents the pinnacle of University Football in Canada. He was a founding member of the Canadian Children’s Foundation.

He took great joy and made many friends while being an active member of the Forest Hill Lions Club. He became its President in 1970-1971. He was also a member of the Variety Club of Ontario, Tent 28, where he participated in many fundraisers.

He was a founding member of the Industrial Developers Association of Canada and also held memberships with the Transportation Club of Toronto, the Ontario Industrial Development Council, and the Empire Club of Canada and was member of the Toronto Board of Trade in various capacities. For many years, he was a Director of the Canadian National Exhibition Association. He served on the Etobicoke Library Board, City of Toronto Planning Board, Metropolitan Toronto Planning Board and the Advisory Committee on Metroplan and the Toronto Harbour Commission.

A proud veteran, he was a member of the Royal Canadian Military Institute and took part, for as many years as he could, in The Warriors Day Parade at the CNE. The Weston Golf and Country Club and the Oakville Historical Society were particularly dear to Bob’s heart.

Bob will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Friends will be received at the Ward Funeral Home, 2035 Weston Road (north of Lawrence Ave. W.) Weston on Wednesday from 1pm to 8pm.
A memorial service will be held in the chapel on Thursday July 29, 2010
at 11:30am. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Ontario Foundation for Visually Impaired Children would be appreciated.
