Robert William Turner
Place of Birth: Winnipeg, Manitoba
Age 90, of Brampton ON, died at his residence, Holland Christian Homes, Tuesday, November 29, 2016.
Robert was born on July 22, 1926, the son of Gerald and Marion (Longmire) Turner.
He graduated from High School and then enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy in 1944 at the age of 18 and served as an ASDIC (underwater detection system) operator on the River Class Frigate, HMCS Inch Arran.
At the conclusion of World War II, he was honourably discharged and then went to work for Canadian Pacific Railway. He worked for the railway most of his adult life and one of his first jobs was as a waiter in the dining car on passenger trains. He then moved on to operator and dispatcher and was located in the small town of Schreiber Ontario on the north shore of Lake Superior for the majority of that time before being transferred to Montreal Quebec in 1976 where he finished his career at the CP Rail Operations Centre. He retired in September 1986.
Robert is survived by his Wife of 68 years Jacquelyn, Sons William and Alan, Sister Mary Betty, Sister-in-Law Laurenna, Daughter-in-Law Remie, Granddaughter Melissa, Grandson Ken, Great Granddaughters Patricia and Samantha, Nieces Cheryl, Suzanne, Patricia and Nephew John.
Cremation will take place this week and a Celebration of Life Service will be held at St. James the Apostle Anglican Church, 3 Catherdral Rd, Brampton Ontario at 11am on Saturday December 3, 2016. Reception will begin at 10am and a luncheon will follow the service at 12pm.
