Pastor Reinhard Roesler passed away peacefully on Friday, February 7, 2025, at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his beloved family, after a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s disease.
He was the devoted husband of Edith Roesler, with whom he shared nearly 60 years of marriage, a loving father of Kurt Roesler (Heidi), Doreen Antoine (Andre), and Iris Law (Jeffrey), proud grandfather of Angela Brix (Darren), Kevin Roesler (Emilie Nantel), Andrew Roesler, Jesse and Cierra Antoine, and great-grandfather of William and Mattias Brix.
Born in Wartegau, Germany on May 4, 1941, to Paul and Olga Roesler, Reinhard immigrated to Canada with his family in 1952, eventually settling in Toronto. He graduated from the University of Toronto with a Teaching degree and later finished his Masters degree in Alberta.
In 1966, he married Edith, and they spent several years in Philadelphia before he answered God’s call into ministry. After attending Bible school in Edmonton, Alberta, he received an invitation to serve as pastor of the German Church of God in Manola/Barrhead, AB. He also later served as pastor of churches in Chilliwack, BC, Winnipeg, MB, and Toronto, ON. He retired from ministry in Toronto and settled in Oakville, where he found joy in spending time with his family.
Pastor Roesler desired to faithfully shepherd the congregations he served and to care for their spiritual needs. He had the opportunity to travel within Canada, the US, South America, Europe, and Kazakhstan and minister to many people during those trips. He was also the editor of the Sunday School lessons (Lektionsheft) for many years.
In his spare time, Reinhard enjoyed spending time outdoors, landscaping, and taking care of his yard. He had creative talent, often decorating the front wall of the church with artistic messages. Reinhard also enjoyed having his family around him, and as children, we look back at many memorable dinners around the table with dad and mom.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the McArthur Street Church of God, 9 McArthur St., Toronto, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place at Trafalgar Lawn Cemetery in Oakville.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to ShareWord Global Canada or Parkinson Canada.
