Ralph Theodore Newmeister died peacefully in his sleep Friday, October 11, 2019, at the age of 82. He was born in Ulm, Germany on July 3,1937 to Gustav and Liselotte Neumeister.
He will be missed greatly by his cherished wife, Emmi.
He was a kind and loving father to Hilke Grunys (Al), Sylvia Fletcher (Brian) and a supportive and cherished Opa to his grand-children Adam Grunys (Lisa), Alexis Grunys (Jarret Schilke), Valerie White (Don), and Stephanie Fletcher (pre-deceased), and great-grandchildren Ethan, Maya, Sage, Ryder, William and Owen. Uncle of Tina (Buehler Morton) and Michael Buehler; brother of Udo, Thea (Buehler, pre-deceased) and Joachim.
Ralph’s early training, extensive knowledge of food and retail led to management positions with Dominion Stores, Safeway, and private ownership of award-winning The Smokehouse Fruit and Vegetables shop, eventually leading to his many years at the Cheese Boutique. Here his creative ability, commitment to excellence, and love of food created an atmosphere of culinary delight for everyone.
He lived a life based on the principles of honour and integrity, and was an example of his motto: “If you say it, do it. Do it well and properly”. His leisure time was spent with Emmi and family, or quiet evenings watching classic films, especially Casablanca, or reading a good book.
Visitation in his honour will be held Friday, October 18, 2019 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Ward Funeral Home, 2035 Weston Road, Toronto.
