Our Dad was a warm, gentle soul. Born in Babin Potok, Serbia in 1926. He was a man who was way ahead of his time. Forgoing social norms of the 1950’s, he would often be seen pushing his girls in the baby carriage or washing and hanging diapers on the line. He loved his daughters Jenny (Stephen) and Judy (Larry) and his grandchildren Ryan (Natalie) and Michael (Ella) and Krista. Rade loved his grandchildren to the moon and back and beamed with pride at their accomplishments. Longevity allowed him to see his first great grandchild Juniper whom he would lovingly refer to as “the little chicken”. Predeceased by his wife Gertrude, to whom he was married for 66 years, he was her pillar of strength as she wrestled with ailing health and dementia. Through it all he remained committed, loving and caring. He left a mark on everyone he met. Dad was a simple man who loved simple things and yet he was strict in his routines. Cut the grass a certain way, trim the fruit trees a certain way, fold your socks a certain way….keep everything in order. He was adamant that we look after each other and our health, exercise, don’t eat or drink too much and drive carefully! Unfortunately, his last 3 months would be spent in hospital fighting infection after infection. Huge thanks to the nurses on the 4th floor in the ACE unit at Brampton Civic Hospital for their love and attention and special mention to Dr. Saad, Dr. Young, and Dr. Malam who never gave up on him and tried so hard to make things better. Rade is survived by family in Serbia, Dubai, London and Australia; although events in his life brought him to Canada, they remained a source of pride and he loved them dearly.
He was a good man and he was well loved.
