Pio Luigi Francescutti passed away peacefully at home on September 24, 2024, surrounded by his loving wife and daughters, after a courageous battle with cancer, at the age of 76.
Beloved husband to Linda for over 50 years and adored father to Valerie (Jean Paul) and Emily (Christopher). Cherished Nonno to Nathaniel, Violet, Bennett, Vivienne and Theodore.
Born on January 2, 1948, in Casarsa della Delizia, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Italy, the youngest of 10 siblings, to the late Maria and Ottaviano Francescutti. Pio is predeceased by his brothers Egidio (Rina) and Pietro (Annette). He is survived by his loving sisters Genoveffa (Luigi), Dina (Antonio), Vetulia (Elio), Maria Teresa (Ugo), Raffaella (Davide), Lucia (Rino), Alfreda (Saverio) and sister-in-law Ada (Renzo). Beloved Zio to his many nieces and nephews.
At the age of 8, Pio emigrated to Toronto, where he and his family embraced the challenges and opportunities of a new life. He often shared stories of those early days, recounting the resilience, humour, and perseverance required to adapt to a new country. Pio was proud of his educational achievements, earning both a Bachelor of Science from Brock University and a Bachelor of Business Administration from York University. His career as a Senior Auditor for the Provincial Government spanned decades, and he took great pride in his work, known for his meticulous nature and dedication to his role.
After retirement, as a man of deep faith, Pio dedicated much of his time to volunteering with the Church. In addition to serving as a Minister of Communion, he became an active member of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. It was through his time with the Knights that he developed memorable friendships that provided a lasting impact on his life. Pio’s kindness and desire to serve others continued through his weekly volunteering role at Mackenzie Health Cortellucci Hospital.
Pio lived his life guided by strong moral principles and enjoyed many pleasures of life, indulging in good wine, gourmet meals and desserts, and adventures in travel. He and Linda were enthusiastic members of the 30-Up Club, where they spent many evenings ballroom dancing. Above all, Pio loved his family, particularly cherishing the time he spent with his grandchildren. Nonno Pio told the best stories, made the greatest pasta ‘sugo’ and offered unforgettable words of wisdom.
The family will receive condolences at Ward Funeral Home, 4671 Highway 7, Woodbridge Chapel, on Thursday October 3, 2024 from 3-5 pm and 7-9 pm. The funeral mass will be held at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 100 Bainbridge Avenue, Woodbridge on Friday, October 4, 2024 at 9:30 am with entombment at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, 7300 Highway 27, Woodbridge, immediately following.
Pio’s family takes comfort in knowing that his legacy of kindness, integrity, humility and faith will live on through the many lives he touched. In accordance with his wishes, the family kindly asks for prayers and mass intentions in lieu of flowers. In recognition of the excellent cancer care provided by Dr. Sebastien Hotte and his Hamilton team members, and his wish that good deeds be done in his name, we ask that you consider a donation directed to support cancer research at the Juravinski Cancer Center in memory of Pio Francescutti.
