PIETRA LAKICS (ABATE)


With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Pietra Lakics (Abate) while surrounded by her family on Tuesday, July 30, 2019 at the age of 85. Predeceased by her husband Vincenzo Pampalone. Beloved mother to Mark (Diane), Nina (Kevin), Andy and Cathy. Cherished grandmother to Allison (Mike), Robbie, Katie (Kyle), Jake, Neil, Adrian, Luca, Shelby, Owen and Madelynne. Great-grandmother of Nolan, Nyles and Hudson and sister to Paolina (Giacomo). Missed by her family and many friends. Pietra moved to Canada with her two young children in the early 60's. She did not speak a word of English. She worked hard and raised 4 amazing, kind and compassionate kids. She was the grandmother of 10 children and great grandmother to 3. Her family was her everything. She loved kicking our butts in scopa and putting food on our plates, even when we insisted we were full. She was strong, bold, a woman of faith, with a big heart and a sense of humour. Her love for travel was a testament to her strong and independent nature. Trips to Panama, Cuba and even New Years Eve spent in New York City were cherished memories along with day trips to the Casino and Tuesdays and Thursdays spent at the local Italian Club. We have lost her and our hearts are broken. We are forever grateful to have had many years with her. Thank you for showing us many examples of your strength. You will be so missed but we hear heaven has unlimited espresso and Family Feud. Friends will be received at the Ward Funeral Home (4671 Highway #7, Woodbridge) on Friday from 2-4 & 6-9 pm. A Funeral Mass will take place at St. Peter's Church ( 100 Bainbridge Avenue, Woodbridge) on Saturday, August 3, 2019 at 9:30 am. Entombment to follow at Highland Memory Gardens.
