God called Pierina Vendittelli peacefully on Friday November 1, 2024, at the age of 93. Cherished by her children Mary (Dario), Adriana (late Rocco), Vince (Anna), Elena (Mike), Paul (Luisa). Born in Aubervilliers, Paris, France, on December 30, 1930, Pierina’s life was a journey of resilience, warmth, and pride. She was raised in a small town called San Vittore Del Lazio, Lazio, Italy, the cherished youngest of three children of Vincenzo Masecchia and Maria Arcaro.
In 1962, Pierina embarked on a courageous journey to Canada with her daughters, Mary and Adriana. After crossing the Atlantic and arriving in Halifax, they traveled by train to Toronto, determined to build a new life filled with opportunity. She and her husband Roberto, whom she had married in San Vittore Del Lazio, later welcomed three more children, Vincenzo, Paolo, and Elena, all born in Toronto. Pierina spent her early years in Canada working in manufacturing, embracing each challenge with strength and pride.
Pierina’s life was enriched by her family and her Italian traditions. A gifted cook and dedicated gardener, her kitchen was always filled with the comforting aromas of her cooking, and her garden bloomed with vibrant red roses, her favorite flower. Known for her strong will, Pierina lived each day with resilience and a deep pride that carried her through 93 remarkable years. She was especially fond of Tim Hortons, take-out food, espresso, croissants, and even Chinese cuisine.
Her signature red lipstick, black hair, and love of jewelry added a unique French flair to her Italian warmth. She spent countless hours in her vegetable and flower gardens, bringing beauty and joy to her family. Her extraordinary will to live was evident in everything she did, and she left this earth peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones. Now, after a long and full life, she is reunited in heaven with her husband, Roberto, who passed away in November 2020.
Pierina leaves behind a legacy in her five children, 12 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. Her memory will live on in every family gathering, every garden bloom, and every shared story of her life.
Donations may be made in Pierina's memory to the Canadian Lung Association.
