On November 30, 2024 Phyllis Beatrice Grisdale (nee Brett) passed into Glory to be with Jesus. She passed in her sleep as she wished, with family at her side. She joins her beloved Gordon. Hubert Gordon Grisdale 1920-2009. Phyllis was 100 and one half years young. She leaves behind her three children Barry (Jan), Brad (Helen) and Carolyn. Grandchildren: Kristy, Joshua, Jamie (Ruby), Elizabeth (Jeff), Kearn, Francesca and Roland (Natasha). Great grandchildren: Star, Miles, Olivia, Xavier, Clive, Mason, Max, Amos, William, Silas, and Emanuella. Her brother Richard Brett (Pauline 1934-2008). Many nephews and nieces. And many friends especially Pat Ainslie, Liana DiMarco and the whole Phinnemore Family.
Phyllis grew up in Barrie Ontario, the second of 10 children. Hers was an active family. They drove from Barrie to Victoria in 1928, using railway tracks where there were no roads. They spent most summers camping, swimming, eating chocolate and getting into lots of trouble.
Phyllis and Gordon were married in 1944, and moved to the Rexdale house in 1952 on Christmas eve in a sea of mud. Gordon worked for Orenda Engines on the design of jet engines and turbines including the incredible Iroquois engine for the Avro Arrow, when he wasn’t working on his many hobbies.
Phyllis was a founding member of Kipling Avenue Baptist Church. She taught Sunday school for 35 years, worked for the Red Cross, delivered Meals on Wheels, was a life time member of BWMS, enumerated elections, swam three times a week at Vic Tanny’s (google it!), never missed a garage sale, went camping, oh, and raised three kids and a couple of grandkids.
Per Phyllis’ request there will be no funeral service. Internment will be in spring at Barrie Union Cemetery.
