Phyllis Anne Anzil (nee Giordano), loving wife, mother, grandma, sister-in-law, aunt, niece and friend, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at the age of 83. She was surrounded by her children who will continue to honour her legacy by living life to the fullest.
Phyllis is predeceased by her parents Michael Giordano and Mary Meschino and her husband of 56 years, Aldo Angelo Anzil. She will be sadly missed by her children Jeff (Christine), Dina (Aldo), Danny (Deborah), and her grandchildren Peter, Matthew, Luc, and Kate. Her brother-in-law Tony Di Tomaso, niece Diana, and nephew Michael, and aunts Edith Meschino Citrullo and Jean Meschino Trelford will also mourn her loss, along with many other loving cousins and friends including her bridge group.
Phyllis was born in Toronto and attended Silverthorne Elementary and St. Joseph’s College schools and graduated from Teachers College. She taught at Immaculate Conception Elementary and then worked for the Toronto Board of Education as a Physical Education consultant before leaving teaching to raise her family. Her passion for educating was ever present while she was at home with her children, whether it was organizing graduations, initiating a parent’s guild, or fighting for publicly-funded Catholic schools. She later worked in real estate and received many awards for her performance.
She was an avid tennis player and enjoyed skiing and golfing as well as a quiet day of fishing on the lake. In her later years she enjoyed traveling with her husband and family and their summer retreat in Collingwood. She was known for her passion for preparing gourmet food for family and friends and the family home was always the center of celebrations. In her later years, she joined the Retired Women's Teachers Organization and rediscovered her love for bridge which brought her great joy and friendship up until the weeks before her passing.
We are most grateful for the dedication and care provided by her caregiver, Marites De La Cruz (Tes), as well as the palliative care team of the Kidney Foundation. With their support, Mom was able to live out her last wishes in the comfort of her home while surrounded by her family.
Please see the visitation schedule and details for her funeral service on Ward’s website.
