Paul Vetter

Paul Frederick Vetter, 72, of Burlington ON, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2014 at Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital, with his family by his side, after a brief but valiant battle with cancer. To the end, he was smiling and gracious to his visitors and caregivers. He is survived by his loving wife Donna, his two sons Alexander (Krista), and Christian (Trisha), and his 6 grandchildren. Paul was raised on a farm in Lemberg, SK alongside his sister Margaret (Ko) of Fairmont BC, and two brothers Albert (Valerie) of Mission BC, and Norman (Francine)of Prince Albert SK. After high school he moved on from the farm, first to a successful career in banking, the highlight of which was spending 25 years with the Royal Bank of Canada and Canadian Commercial Bank, while later in life he returned to his love of being outdoors by owning and operating a property maintenance and house sitting business in Oakville for nearly 20 years. For the past 11 years, until falling ill in January, he happily worked at the Home Depot in both Oakville locations, proudly manning the pro desk, tool rental, lumber, and hardware departments, earning many customer service and appreciation awards along the way. When he wasn’t at the Home Depot sharing his abundant wealth of knowledge, he was in his basement workshop making toys, games and furniture for his grandchildren’s birthday and Christmas presents, or helping someone in his extensive network of friends in any way he could offer. Paul never lost his love of the prairies and the connections he made there as a young man. In recent years he made frequent trips with Donna to the west to visit family, friends, and old farm neighbours, at times spending hours driving to track down a long lost acquaintance. He will be dearly missed, but his legacy will live on with pride.
