Patrick Young

December 3, 1936 — July 23, 2020

Patrick Young

Patrick James Young was born December 3rd 1936 in Toronto. He was the youngest of four to Mary and Owen Young. He is survived by his sister Margaret Young, and is predeceased by his sister Catherine Kerr and his brother William Young. Additionally, he is survived by his nieces and nephews, Helen Marie Eichel, Margaret Kerr, Loretta Laplume, Philip Kerr, Paul Kerr and Teresa Logan.
At a very early age Pat moved to Brampton where he resided for most of his life. He was very active at his parish, St. Mary’s, starting at the tender age of 8 where he was a frequent participant as an alter server with the likes of his oldest friend Jim Doyle. He attended St. Michael’s College School for his secondary school education meeting with his life-long friends Leo McArthur and Stan MacLellan. He received his undergraduate degree from Windsor University and a post graduate degree from Memorial University.
Pat spent his career at Mohawk College in Hamilton imparting his wisdom to economic students. It was at this time that he became friends with his colleague, Paul Riehm, who later became his business partner. They operated the infamous Moose Camp and Fly In Fishing Lodge in Northern Ontario hosting numerous family members, close friends and the occasional paying customer!!
His life-long passions were family, friends and the Right to Life. To these passions he was a constant source of support, engagement and commitment.
Throughout his adult life, Pat demonstrated an undying commitment to the life of the unborn by way of the Right to Life program, through ongoing letter writing, public protests and continuous financial support.
Anyone that knew Pat knew of the value he placed on his life-long friends. Pat was highly involved in their lives and families and became the “adopted brother/uncle” to them. This resulted in colourful stories usually involving fishing, hunting and other excuses for a cold beverage!
The happiness and well-being of his family was of paramount importance to Pat, and his generosity to them knew no bounds. Pat’s character can be best illustrated by the following: One Christmas Eve, Pat drove five miles in a raging snow storm, got stuck in a snow bank and went on to walk the last a mile to the home of his nieces and nephews to ensure that they had their Christmas gifts from him when they woke up on Christmas morning. He then turned around to return home!
Pat’s humour and stories will be missed by all who knew him, but mostly what will be absent is his passion for supporting his fundamental beliefs. Rest in peace Pat!
