Patricia Pauline Wright passed away peacefully at The Village of Humber Heights on Monday, April 15, 2013. We hope that Mom is reunited with her late husband Kenneth A. Wright, her soul mate and love of her life.
Pat is the Mother and head cheerleader for her three sons Norm (Regina Plateo), Don and Les (Gillian Poulter) who have benefitted from her endless support throughout their lives. Her 5 grandchildren love her dearly as Gramma worked hard at establishing a wonderful relationship with each of David (Janine Kobylka), Katie, Ellen, Emily and Lucas. Several years ago she became a great grandmother to Charlie and then James. They will both miss their Great Gram.
Pat will also be missed by Regina Plateo’s children Steven and Christine (Brent Pautler), Susan Wright (Pat Pinto), and Sally Wright. Pat will miss drinks on the patio with her long time neighbours Jane Marie and Joe Swain and their son Matthew.
Pat was born in Saint John, New Brunswick and although moving to Montreal on marrying her beloved Ken and then to Toronto, she always remained a maritimer in spirit. She is predeceased by her brother Norman. She always regretted not being closer to her sister-in-law Helen Searles and her nieces Sandy Bissett (Bob), Pat Harris (Bobby), Judy Brundage and nephew Ray Searles (Nora) who, except for Sandy and Bob, live in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.
Pat’s principal occupation throughout her life was being a wife, Mom and Gramma. She also worked a variety of jobs and volunteered for several organizations. Her main recreation centred on activities at The Weston Golf and Country Club. Weston provided so many good times and so many good friends who enriched her life. Mom was an excellent curler and she liked nothing better than the camaraderie and competition of a bonspiel or friendly. The annual Weston women’s show was a highlight on her calendar each year and she so much enjoyed working, practising and performing with the girls. The friendships Pat made at Weston added immeasurably to her enjoyment of life. They are too numerous to list but the family would like to make special mention of Georgie Clifton, who was a constant source of support, and Elaine Dunmore, whose musical greeting cards brought many smiles.
Pat was a fiercely independent woman who took care of herself and, while providing support for family and friends, did not intrude or infringe on their boundaries. It was difficult for Mom at 88 to finally give up her town home at Islington Place and move first to Tapestry at Village Gate West and then The Village of Humber Heights. Pat’s family would like to thank the staff of both these facilities for the care and support they provided during her stays.
Family and friends will be received at Ward Funeral Home, 2035 Weston Road, Toronto, 416-241-4618 on Wednesday, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held at Ward Funeral Home in the chapel on Thursday, April18 at 11:00 a.m. Flowers are respectfully declined. The family asks that you consider a donation in remembrance of Pat to the charity of your choice.
