With great sadness, we announce the passing of Parker Ignatius Woods on Thursday, May 20, 2021, at his home in Rexdale, Ontario. After more than a year of perseverance and herculean strength in the face of multiple health challenges, we were unprepared and heartbroken when our rock was suddenly called home at the age of 77.
Beloved husband of Shirley, his companion and support for more than 40 years, Parker was also proud father of Nicole (Fitz) and Julie. He will be forever loved and missed by his stepchildren Jillian, Debra, Lenore and Curtis. He was the son of the late Wilson and Nettie Woods of Bon Accord, Tobago. He was predeceased by his sister Molly and brothers Dennis, Harrison, Ardrin, and Hansley. He will be missed by brothers Topin and Kenneth. Sisters Shirley, Iola and Janet provided comfort and compassion from afar in his last days.
Parker was a dedicated grandfather and great-grandfather. He wanted nothing more than success and happiness for his grandchildren Preston, Christian, Julissa, Jorell, Jay, Latoya, Latanya, Camille (Jesse), Celina, Jerome, Dane and Gabriel. He found joy in every minute spent with his great-grandchildren Nevaeh, Jahliyah, Kalina, Caleb, Ethan, Mayah and Sianna.
Parker will be fondly remembered by his many nephews, nieces, extended family and good friends.
Parker gave 24 years of public service to Canada Revenue Agency, retiring from his position as an Auditor in 2013. Throughout his career and long after retirement, he volunteered his talent and time to assisting charitable organizations and small businesses with accounting and incorporation. He was a quiet, meticulous and reliable man. We could always count on him for a clever remark delivered with his trademark deadpan tone followed by a deep chuckle. He built a network of friends through his involvement in numerous Caribbean community organizations in Toronto.
Parker was, above all, passionate and proud of his family. He took care of us, defended us and loved us in a way uniquely his own. We will miss his steady presence and sound advice. We are grateful for the time he spent with us and will never forget the lessons he taught us.
There will be a virtual celebration of his life for friends and family from around the world on Friday, May 28, 2021. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to Black Health Alliance (blackhealthalliance.ca) or Myeloma Canada (myelomacanada.ca)
