It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Paolo Zappia at Humber River Regional Hospital, surrounded by his family. Predeceased by his parents Maria and Vincenzo, Paolo is survived by his devoted wife of over 50 years, Teresa, and his loving children Vincent and Florence. Beloved by his younger sister Graziella and brother-in law Francesco, brother, and sister-in-law Tony and Graziella and older sister Teresa. He is fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews Vince, Anthony, Elvira, Arturo, Angela, Stefania, and Francesco and extended family, Rosina, Gus, Antonio, Pina, Gennaro, and Bruno.
As a young man, Paolo immigrated to Canada in 1959 from Bovalino Superiore, Italy to start a new life in Montreal. He later moved to Toronto, where he met his wife Teresa and started his own family. A fiercely loyal person, devoted to his family and his friends; He was a respected and well-liked person by everyone who had the pleasure of meeting him. Paolo was a resolute employee of the City of Toronto Waste Management department for twenty-five years, receiving several commendations for service and health and safety.
The family wishes to thank the medical professionals at Humber River Regional Hospital for the compassionate care they provided to Paolo over the past year. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 8th, 4-8 pm at Ward Funeral Home, 2035 Weston Road, Toronto, Ontario, with the service on Wednesday, November 9th at 11 am, at St. John The Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 49 George Street, Toronto followed by interment at Beechwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, the Kidney Foundation of Canada, or the charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
